The 2010 Summer Mix is in the works! “Out in the street we’ll be dancin’…” is the only clue coming your way today on a potential track. The mix has yet to be named. I’m taking a different approach this year. I refuse to allow Panovec to intimidate me. This will be pure LAN. Release date: Memorial Day-ish. Stay tuned.
The “Southerner’s Summer Musical Companion (with Special Guest)” was our first ever summer mix. We still think it’s a smokin’ mix. How could the judges place it second?! The double shot of North Mississippi All-Stars to open up the CD alone placed this one much further ahead of the competition. Of course the rockin’ blues slant was geared towards vote getting but c’mon, not a bad attempt at a mix.
Anyone get what “with Special Guest” was all about? In case you didn’t, “Hey Jude” by Wilson Pickett arguably launched Duane Allman’s career. That’s Allman on the track and then again playing with Eric Clapton on the Derek and the Dominoes tune. The familiar voice with Blues Traveler is Greg Allman. Canadian Kathleen Edwards was technically the “special guest” but really the mix of covers and session musicians bring the mix home to me.
We’ll look back at other mixes over the next few weeks as we plan to smoke a dead animal carcass over Memorial Day. Got requests for the mix? Let us know.
Cheers!
