Cornbread

I have new license plates on the new hotness.  They spell out “Cornbread”.  They are in honor of my new favorite song from DMB called “Cornbread”.  I went to pick up the plates today – pick them up because apparently Missouri hasn’t caught up to the 2000’s yet by automating the process via US Mail.  Here’s a little recap of the event:

“Number 88,” called the DMV lady who could easily give a young Minnie Pearl a run for her money.

“Hi I need to pick up my new license plates, please” I said as I handed her the DMV confirmation letter.

There was a slight pause as DMV lady skimmed the letter.  She then grinned as she reached around to sort through the plates.  She began to laugh as she set the plates down on the counter in front of her.  “Is that ‘cornbread’?”, she asked in an uncertain tone.

“Yes it is!”

Her laughter then became more pronounced.  “Nah, you have to be kiddin’ me.”

“Nope.  It’s ‘cornbread’ after my newest favorite song by a favorite band.  And I like to eat cornbread too”, I said.

She continued giggling while typing away on her keyboard, swapping out my plates officially.  “I just want you to know that this is an additional $15 to reserve ‘cornbread’ through next year.  Ok?” she asked.

“No problem,” I said.

“Good because I don’t want you to be surprised about that.”

“Well that’s ok.  I was surprised to see that ‘cornbread’ was available”, I exclaimed.

“Cornbread!?  You look more intelligent than that,” she confessed.

After several seconds of laughter, on her end, she asked “are you married?”

You’ve inspired me to finally get my DMB personalized plate! I’ve been putting it off mostly because I wanted to come up with something that did not include the initials “DMB” as most people thought my old personalized plate “DMBWH41” was actually “dumb-something.” I won’t reveal the new plate until it arrives.
