Movin’ On

On the eve of a big week, I had to work on a mix to help with some driving and keep me focused. Technically it’s titled “Reach for the Stars 2007 Vol. I.” Affectionately known as the Movin’ On Mix.
Here’s the lineup:
  1. I’m Movin’ On, Ray Charles: Great way to open this mix because it’s a classic recording with tons of soul. “Move on baby.”
  2. Move Along, the All-American Rejects: Why not? It’s a great tune when you’re pounding on five miles I can tell you that. “Right back what is wrong.”
  3. Fly By Night, Rush: I haven’t placed a Rush tune in any mixes yet and couldn’t avoid this one. “The feeling inside me says it’s time I was gone.”
  4. Running Down A Dream, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: It’s nice to hear the Petty now and again. “I’m goin’ wherever it leads.”
  5. One Headlight, the Wallflowers: This is another one that is on my workout mix because somehow it causes me to focus. “There’s got to be something better than in the middle.”
  6. Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen: Are you kidding me? Nothing says move on better than this tune. I couldn’t pass it up. “Someday girl I don’t know when we’re gonna get to that place where we really want to go…”
  7. Born to Move, Creedence Clearwater Revival: A little obscure Creedence never hurt anyone. “Spread the news, we’re goin’ have some fun.”
  8. Southbound, Allman Brothers Band: Do you think for one second I would skimp on the Allman Brothers? Right on the heels of Creedence at that? “Lord I’m comin’ home to you.”
  9. Crosstown Traffic, Soulive with Robert Randolph: Every good anthem related mix needs an instrumental. Here Soulive jams with Robert Randolph from the album Break Out.
  10. Right Place Wrong Time, Dr. John: I used this in a summer mix a while back but it says everything about the job market. “Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here?”
  11. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Paul Simon: Maybe this isn’t in keeping with the theme but I couldn’t resist the chorus. “Slip out the back Jack…”
  12. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours), Stevie Wonder: Actually this song popped into my mind at the last minute. “Oh, you’ve got the future in your hand.”
  13. Promised Land, Elvis Presley: If I really was nuts I would buy a black 1983 Crown Victoria and put on 18” five spoke chrome mag wheels. “Tell the folks back home this is the promised land calling.”
  14. Dreamin’, G. Love and Special Sauce: I’m likin’ G. Love more everyday. “Don’t roll the dice if you can’t pay the price.”
  15. Gonna Move, Paul Penna: Panovec hooked me up with Susan Tedeschi’s version of this tune. I’m using Penna here because of his soulful voice. “Finally we moved to our own place where I could walk around with a smile on my face.”
  16. The Feeling Music Brings, Susan Tedeschi: I actually considered a double shot of Tedeschi here. “I’m gonna be thankful for this feelin that music brings.”
  17. Never Make A Move Too Soon, B.B. King: The King! ‘Nough said, “Never make a move too soon.”
  18. Walk On, U2: I certainly liked this one to wrap up the CD. “What you got, they can’t steal it. No they can’t even feel it.”

A couple more RFTS mixes are in the works, including the highly top secret summer volume. “I’m comin’ for you Porkchop!”
Stay tuned…
