I’ve really gotten more into Twitter over the last 45 days, more so than I had in the previous six months.  I use it mostly for following news.  It’s a heck of a lot easier getting the news everyday in shorts than through RSS feeds and with the new lists feature in Twitter it’s easier to sort and keep news organized.

I like to see what people online are talking about.  I read an article recently about the value of the Internet – an economist wrote that the real value is people not commerce.  Twitter certainly goes to the heart of this view.

Catching up with conversation and “what’s hot” can be accomplished quickly through Twitter for just about everything that matters to a person.  The hash tag helps with this.  If you can search for it, there’s a tag.  For instance if I want to see the latest Auburn discussion “#auburn” takes me to a list of tweets about Auburn.  Try this with just about anything you want to follow and see what comes up.

Mostly, I use it for business.  I can follow industry insiders, blogs, trade news/press, and competitors online easier in Twitter than using favorites or bookmarks in a browser.  I can also contribute content or news articles around these lines easier.  It’s a good personal brand builder tool too.

TweetDeck is the Twitter tool of choice.  It can display multiple accounts, incorporate multiple social platforms, and display lists and groups.  There are cool new features too such as displaying New Followers, permanent searches, etc.  Just about any kind of content and discussion can be categorized.  Cool stuff!

We’re just getting the LAN feed going with very little content.  In the meantime here are a couple of neat Twitter profiles worth taking a look over and following:

• Food Porn: Pictures of food sent in by users.  Amateur and pro photos alike.

• This Beer: Just like you and me, connecting through pictures of your beer of the moment.

• Home Sick Texan: The twitter feed from one of my favorite foodie blogs.  Nice real time foodie content from a Texan trapped in New York.

• Schlafly: Yep, the twitter feed from St. Louis’ best craft brewer.  I like it because of the good brew and local Lou content.

• Airport Bars: Another blog with a feed.  I like this one because you really get a conversation among travelers and beer.  Most of the time there are some good beers mentioned with recommendations.
