Number 4

0 Comments 26 November 2008

What can we say about Number 4 that hasn’t already been written about?  Not much.

It was another year that houndstooth nation proclaimed “Bama is Back”.  The Tide had a nation leading defense in 2005.  At one point the team had been ranked as high as number 4.  Huh?  Yep, you can’t make stuff this good up.

Turns out that media is a great motivator for the Auburn Tigers.  During the year their accomplishments had been overshadowed by this “back” phenomena.  They rode that to a decisive victory in the first quarter of the game, well actually the first several minutes of the game.  The Tigers made a statement, jumping out to a 21-0 lead.

It was the Auburn defense however that stole the show.  Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle was sacked 11 times.   Alabama only gained a total of 188 yards for the game.

This is another game to make the top 10 list of the most memorable Auburn wins in the Tommy Tuberville era.  ESPN has the full game recap.
